About the Platform

Albanica Journals is a national open-access scholarly publishing platform that brings together peer-reviewed academic journals focused on Albania, Albanian studies, and the broader Albanian-speaking world. The platform provides a single point of discovery for researchers, students, librarians, and the general public to access high-quality scholarly research freely and without barriers.

The platform is built on Open Journal Systems (OJS 3.5), the internationally recognised open-source journal management and publishing system developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). OJS ensures long-term sustainability, compliance with international open-access standards, and compatibility with global indexing services such as DOAJ, Crossref, Google Scholar, and Scopus.

All journals hosted on Albanica Journals operate under open-access principles, meaning that every article is freely available to read, download, and share immediately upon publication — with no subscription fees, no paywalls, and no embargo periods.

Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen the visibility and international reach of Albanian scholarship. For too long, important academic research produced in Albania and by Albanian scholars worldwide has remained inaccessible — locked behind institutional barriers, published in limited-circulation print journals, or simply never digitised.

Albanica Journals changes this by providing a permanent, citable, and internationally indexed home for Albanian academic knowledge. We are committed to:

  • 🔓 Universal open access — no fees for readers or authors
  • 🌍 International visibility through indexing in global databases
  • 🏛️ Preservation of Albanian academic heritage in digital form
  • 📐 Rigorous peer review and editorial standards
  • 🤝 Collaboration with universities, institutes, and research centres across Albania and the diaspora

About ACDA

ACDA
ACDA — Albanian Centre for Digital Advancement is the organisation behind Albanica Journals. ACDA is dedicated to advancing Albanian digital infrastructure, cultural preservation, and academic knowledge through technology and open-access initiatives.

ACDA operates at the intersection of technology, culture, and scholarship. Through projects like Albanica Journals, ACDA works to ensure that Albanian intellectual output is preserved, accessible, and recognised on the international stage.

ACDA collaborates with universities, research institutions, libraries, and individual scholars to digitise, host, and disseminate academic content. The organisation provides technical infrastructure, editorial support, and training to journal editors and publishers participating in the Albanica Journals ecosystem.

Technology & Standards

Albanica Journals is powered by Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3.5, developed by the Public Knowledge Project at Simon Fraser University. OJS is the world's most widely used open-source journal publishing platform, trusted by thousands of journals in over 150 countries.

The platform supports DOI assignment via Crossref, ORCID integration for author identification, XML and PDF galley production, structured metadata for indexing, and multilingual content in Albanian, English, Italian, French, and German.
