Abstract

The principles of socialism in Albania, similar to other Eastern European countries, have led architecture and construction from 1945 to 1990, both in public and private buildings, residential and non-residential. More than half of today’s housing units were built in the period of Socialism. Built under political and economic conditions of the regime, using poor quality and defective construction materials, characterized by accelerated construction processes, these buildings do not reflect the principles of sustainable development today.
