Abstract

The purpose of this study is to recommend refractory concrete technology as an alternative method for briquetting powders and chromium concentrates in our country. The extraction of chrome ore from the mines is accompanied by year to year with the increase of the amount of powders with 28-34% chromium oxide content. On the other hand, the enrichment of “poor” chromium minerals with 38-42% Cr2O3 content has caused the amount of chromium powder concentrate to reach significant figures. Given the technological requirements of the Ferrochrome Plant in Albania with a production of about 200000 t/year; in which mainly chromium-based grain is used, we have undertaken a study on the possibility of using chromium minerals in powder or powder concentrate with 28 to 42% Cr2O3 content in the form of briquettes, namely the return of chromium minerals from the condition granular powder by bonding with glass-water, Na2SiO3. This technique is realized using refractory concrete technology [2]. as one of the alternative methods of briquetting. The study was also accompanied by experimental data obtained during the physical, mechanical and thermal testing of briquettes produced at a temperature of 300-400°C on a laboratory and semi-experimental scale.
