Abstract

One of the major causes of car accidents is drunk driving. Statistics show that about 14% of fatalities reported by automobile accidents are due to the condition of a drunk driver, with alcohol levels above the permitted rates. Also, drunk drivers suffer more severe injuries than those who have not consumed alcohol. During this study we will propose a method that will reduce the number of accidents by using a prototype. To accomplish this we will use the alcohol sensor, which receives information from the driver’s breath and through a potentiometer, depending on the level of alcohol level in the breath, it will output power. The alcohol sensor is just one of the elements of a larger system, which will be mounted on the steering wheel and activated when the car is started. At this moment the sensor starts and measures the driver’s blood alcohol level and if the alcohol level is disturbing and exceeds the permitted norms, then the driver is notified via an LCD screen and the car will shut down. At the same time, we use a GPS module to send a notification to the relevant authorities about the location of the vehicle.
