Hammam of Haxhi Beu in Peja

Abstract

The rich inherited ethnic and cultural treasure includes the monumental buildings sacral and profane during the Osman -domınation. The monumental buildihg which has a public and social character. Old Hamam. Big Hamam Kurshumli Hamam, namely Hamam Haxhi Beu in Peja belongs to the aforementioned period.
The Haxhi Beu Hamam was built at the time when Peja was Osman domination, when this city belonged to Sanxhak of Dukagjin (1462-1485). The donor of Haxhi Beu in Peja engaged local experienced Albanian workers to built the hamam. The Construction, the bathrooms are “even", asymmetrical Hamam. In the architectural and functional aspect it has a full functional scheme since possesses all the forseen elements for such public buildings such as the shadervan, isolating environment, Hamam, the environment of the water warehouse with an oven and hipokaustin
The Hamam has a right angled quadrangle base its roof is covered with shadërvan, cubes and arch.
Due to the architectural form, harmonious shape, and clear vision of lines, this bathroom plays one of the main roles in the architectural realization of the monuments of this kind, in the public and social architecture of the Albanian Islam construction in the late Middle Ages, in Peja and other Albanian ethnic territories.
