NDIHMESA E REVISTËS ‘PËRPJEKJA SHQIPTARE’ PËR GJUHËN SHQIPE

Abstract

The first issue of the monthly journal Përpjekja shqiptare was published in October 1936 and continued until December 1938. The journal addressed a wide range of topics including linguistics, literature, sociology, psychology, pedagogy, history, economics, sports, and more. As is well known, the language of the journal was not standardized, and thus the lack of linguistic consistency and criteria is noticeable. Numerous scholars contributed to the journal, undertaking serious efforts to address diverse issues. Their contributions not only enriched the journal's content but also anticipated key developments in Albanian linguistics - particularly in relation to the standardization, preservation, and cultivation of the language. Among the authors featured in the journal were Aleksandër Xhuvani, Selman Riza, and many other advocates of the Albanian language, whose work elevated the cultural, journalistic, and scholarly value of the publication. Through the variety of academic and thematic fields it encompassed, Përpjekja shqiptare made a valuable contribution to language preservation and development, while also playing a significant role in informing and shaping public discourse in Albanian society.
