The value of lifelong learning according to Islamic concepts

Abstract

Lifelong learning is one of the principles of Islam. Let's take a look at the Holy Quran. We will find many sayings like: "My Lord, increase my knowledge" (Taha: 114), then the verse: "Are equal those who know with those who do not have it?! Only wise people accept bits of advice" (Az-Zumar: 9). Also, many prophetic sayings allude the importance and value of learning. Among them, we can emphasize the hadith of the Prophet, which says: "That person who leaves the house with the purpose of searching for knowledge counts as a person who has gone out for the grace of Allah and will be counted as such until he returns." We can find the best example in the early generation of scholars and those who come after them in succession, where we meet plenty of scholars who made many sacrifices to reach new learning levels of knowledge. If we go back to Islamic history, we notice that the dedication of Muslims to knowledge was not only in the religious field, but those generations also dedicated themselves to further understanding other sciences. The Faculty of Islamic Studies is an independent educational and research-scientific institution that organizes undergraduate and postgraduate studies for students interested in benefiting from Islamic theology. The strategy of the Faculty of Islamic Studies -FIS, through the organization of undergraduate and doctoral studies, is to distribute contemporary knowledge through teaching, studies, and research and educate professionals of different levels. With this paper, we aim to clarify the value and importance of lifelong learning and the practices that FSI offers in the field of theological studies in Kosova and beyond.
