Declaration of Independence in the memories of Ferid Vokopola
Abstract
Ferit Vokopola (1887-1967) is one of the personalities who knew and met Ismail Qemali personally.
He accompanied him on his way to Vlora to raise the flag and declare the independence of Albania.
In the memories of Ferid Vokopola we find information directly from the source on one of the biggest events in the history of the Albanian nation.
As an active protagonist and witness of this major historical act, the author describes with fidelity and in details the ongoing events.
He helps us to understand better the situations during those times and the historical importance of the Declaration of Independence.
When, by the end of the Balkans War, the Fatherland was threatened and it was going through the most dangerous moments, it was the hand of the patriot old man Ismail Qemal Bey that raised the national flag, symbol of Albanian liberty.
The red flag with the black double-headed eagle in the middle was not a casual invention or a new creation only for political interests, but it was symbol of a brave nation, which had shed its blood unsparingly for five centuries in a row against the wild waves of the Asian aggressor.
