Albanian education in Kosova during 1990-1999, school homes

Abstract

The prominent scholar Bajram Shatri is a famous author not only in Kosova, but also abroad, especially in Tirana, as a dedicated and connoisseur scholar. An unprecedented effort in order to safeguard the Albanian school attendance, is revealed in his book. Although schools were burned and destroyed, lessons took place in homes, kind of schools that were arranged and fixed by patriots of this territory.
The book “Albanian education in Kosova during 1990-1999”, presents us with many challenges that the education and schools were going through, as well as the achievements and aspirations for of pupils and students future there. The book reveals the help of the education workers, pupils and students, the contribution of all those Albanian breadwinners who opened up their homes and transformed them into schools. The contribution of professional institutions in educating, the contribution of individuals running those institutions who were constantly at the forefront of defense and education leadership, the contribution of political parties and nongovernmental organizations. Educational workers constantly under occupational circumstances, brought up and educated pupils and students that were hungry, shoeless, beaten by Serbian police and often killed. The working conditions in these houses were not suitable, since there was no necessary inventory, no desks and chairs, but as the time went by, schools homes made significant repairs and adaptations.
It is worth mentioning that over the years a large number of existing schools were repaired, throughout all municipalities of Kosova, where more or less were raised new schools with community help and personal contribution funded by the Central Council of Kosova Financing.
During these eight years of work outside their school buildings over 3,200 breadwinners released their homes.
