The new Arabic-Albanian Dictionary

Abstract

The newest edition «Fjalori arabisht-shqip» (The Arabic-Albanian Dictionary) completes the mosaic of dictionaries between eastern languages and Albanian.
The dictionary is accompanied with detailed explanations and translation equivalents. It constitutes one of the first publications of the kind in the market of Albanian publications.
It is authored by Sulejman Tomçini, a renown career diplomat with a long experience of work in Arab countries.
A dictionary of such dimensions is published for the first time in Albania.
Despite a delay of few decades, this work enters into the Albanian linguistics in a suitable and useful moment; it comes at a time when old and new links of Arab language with the Albanian one as well as feeds from the Arab language in our human sciences should be viewed with a critical and assessing eye.
Also, it determines in a sense the level that our contemporaneous linguistics will face at the moment when it will restore the contacts and communications with the eastern languages.
This dictionary presents the lexicon and phraseology of the standard Arab language. It is based on the lexica found in textbooks, newspapers, magazines and letters throughout the Arab world from Iraq to Morocco.
Also, this lexicon is used in official public speeches, radio and television as well as in the religious ceremonies.
Publication of this dictionary, conceived as a new and aboundand flow in the field of lexicography, will come to help to researchers, Albanian students in Arab countries and students at the Islamic faculties and madrasas in Albania, Kosova, Montenegro, Macedonia etc.
This important work is an invaluable contribution to Islamic culture and civilization in our territories.
