The patriotic and intellectual role of Mehmet Pashë Deralla as a national, historical and cultural phenomenon

Abstract

Albanian studies have oftentimes been tied to works and papers which shed light and treat different points of view, roles and contributions of various protagonists in favor of the national subject.
Witnessing this point of view, many scholars have reconsidered and revised, more than once, the treatment of some of the most important moments of the national historiography. Precisely, this is the motivation behind the organization of this activity whose central objective is the valuation of one of the most prominent and important character in our national history: Mehmet Pasha Deralla.
The National Movement should primarily be seen, not just as an organization throughout Albanian societies and as a mobilizing and military strategy to guarantee the defense of the whole territory for the preservation of its integrity, but as an intellectual attempt at raising awareness throughout societies about further spreading and consolidating our national identity. Without a doubt, in this joint cause, the role and contribution of Mehmet Pashë Deralla was a key factor that directly affected the completion of this mission for the future existence of Albanians; their culture, history and state, as an integral part of the Balkan and European Union.
