Abstract

The article aims to present the development of the economic region of Albanian territories under Ottoman rule through research of intersections point and differences of the economic development dinamic of the southwestern Balkans compared to the two major Mediterranean economies with which the Albanian regional market interacts or is involved.
The comparative study made for the dynamics of Ottoman Empire general development and the Republic of Venice reveals that the Albanian territories, although politically part of Ottoman state, were economically a subsystem with its distinctive features. This was dictated by its geographic position as an intermediate zone in trade exchanges between the eastern Mediterranean and the Adriatic, from the different starting point of economic development compared to the entirety of the Ottoman and Venetian states, as well as the intensive use of local economic resources compared to the previous period and later (ie XV and XIX centuries as the time limit).
