Abstract

The first summary of rules of punctuation in the Albanian language was published in 1981 in the form of a draft. Given the demand for this publication, the need to revise based on various observations and to complete it, these rules of punctuation in Albanian language was reprinted in 2002. The principles were the same as in the first edition, but in the second edition, there are adjustments, additions, improvements and various corrections. These two editions of the rules of punctuation have played an important role in the writing of various texts in the Albanian language. The need for processing and fulfilment naturally arises over the years. It is also important the impact of information technology on the publication of texts. All these factors make it necessary a new punctuation guide in the Albanian language. We think it would be of practical value to provide a similar set of data for each punctuation mark, which may consist of explanation of the relevant sign, its graphics, its usage rules, typical cases when is to be or not to be used a space before or after the sign, the use of the capital or lowercase characters before the sign, and its relation with other punctuation marks.
